Methods

I use a variety of systematic, multi-sensory, sequential and research based methods depending on the specific requirements of the child or adult. These include but are not limited to:

  • Lindamood-Bell - LIPS; Visualizing and Verbalizing
  • Slingerland – Decoding, comprehension and writing
  • Wilson Reading – Decoding and Comprehension
  • Handwriting without Tears – Writing skills
  • Anita Archer - Study skills program
  • Project Read/ Structured Writing
  • Step up to Writing- Sentence/paragraph writing
  • Making Math Real – Multi-sensory math program from K through Algebra 2

Using good methods is important but really it is the teaching that makes a difference.

"Many times in business, different is better than better, and we dyslexic do different without blinking an eye."

-Bill Samuel Jr., President of Maker's Mark (Fortune 5/20/98)

"I still have dyslexia. It doesn't magically go away....for the rest of my life I am going to keep fighting to get better and better. This is good news for you guys: it gets a lot easier if you work hard at it"

-Gavin Newsom, Youngest Mayor of San Francisco

"I am, myself, a very poor visualizer and find that I can seldom call to mind even a single letter of the alphabet in purely retinal terms. I must trace the letter by running my mental eye over its contour in order that the image of it shall leave any distinctness at all."

- William James, Psychologist and Philosopher

"I grew up in a school system ... where nobody understood the meaning of learning disorder. In the West Indies, I was constantly being physically abused because the whipping of students was permitted."

-Harry Belafonte

"I am where I am because I believe in all possibilities."
